Dalton names campaign team in governor's race

Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton today announced his gubernatorial campaign team led by Campaign Manager Caroline Valand. Other members of the team include Morgan Jackson and Scott Falmlen with Nexus Strategies as lead consultants,Anzalone Liszt Research, and Envision Communications.

“I am pleased to have such an experienced team in place for my run for governor,” Dalton said. “2012 marks a critical choice for our state’s future. This seasoned team of professionals working on my campaign led by Caroline will help me take my vision and message of progress to the people of North Carolina.”

The Dalton for Governor campaign team includes:

Caroline Valand, campaign manager, is a native of Washington, NC, and is the former chief of staff to Lieutenant Governor Dalton. Prior to that, Valand served as the executive director of the North Carolina Democratic Party in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.

Derwin Dubose, deputy campaign manager, is responsible for social media, voter mobilization, endorsements, and policy research. He has worked as outreach director for Lieutenant Governor Dalton, policy advisor to Treasurer Janet Cowell, finance director to the House Democratic Caucus, and constituent services director for the North Carolina Democratic Party.

Pearse Edwards, communications director, from Greensboro, has over 20 years experience working in the private and public sectors. He has worked in communications positions for governors in Washington state and North Carolina, and worked on local, statewide and national campaigns.

Angel Combs, finance director, is a veteran fundraising consultant with over 15 years experience. Most recently, Combs served as finance director for the Perdue for Governor campaign.

Morgan Jackson and Scott Falmlen, with Nexus Strategies, will act as the campaign’s lead consultants.  Jackson and Falmlen have extensive campaign experience in North Carolina, including managing Dalton’s successful primary and general elections campaigns in 2008.

John Anzalone, of Anzalone Liszt Research, will serve as the campaign’s pollster. Anzalone Liszt counts President Obama, two U.S. senators, and thirteen members of the U.S. House of Representatives among its clients. In North Carolina, Anzalone Liszt polls for Senator Kay Hagan, Congressmen Heath Shuler and Larry Kissell, Attorney General Roy Cooper, and state Treasurer Janet Cowell.

Peter Cari, a founding partner of Envision Communications, will act as the campaign’s media consultant. He previously served as the political director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. A Durham native, Peter has worked on campaigns for Lieutenant Governor Dalton since 2006.

Peter Giangreco, of the Strategy Group, will direct the campaign’s direct mail efforts. Giangreco served as the lead direct mail consultant to Obama for President in 2008. In North Carolina, he has worked for the legislative caucuses since 1998. Giangreco has worked to elect candidates to state and national office, including US senators and three Democratic governors.

Frank Eaton, of Winston-Salem, is the campaign’s Online Media Producer.  Eaton was most recently the creative director of the North Carolina Democratic Party, where he spent the last year honing online video messaging for this primary electorate.  

Finally, Clay Schossow, a partner with New Media Campaigns, is the campaign's lead online consultant.  Clay has previously consulted with scores of state and federal campaigns, and consulted closely with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
